Transforming a School’s Existing Image Into a Cohesive Brand
Columbia Catholic School has a deep-rooted history in the Columbia community, but when Tolton Catholic High School was built in 2011, CCS required a rebrand that would set the two schools apart.
The diocese immediately renamed CCS, Our Lady of Lourdes Interparish School, but for 11 years, the brand reflected both the new name and the old logo. This created brand confusion.
Our challenge was to create clarity in the name Our Lady of Lourdes Interparish School as well as create a sub logo with the acronym OLLIS. We needed to do this while also maintaining a look that honored traditional aspects of the school identity while introducing new coordinated brand standards that worked across all platforms.
Simple, yet sophisticated
We carefully chose typography that represented the clean, professional reputation of the school, and created assets inspired by the plaid patterns seen on students’ uniforms. Every element of the rebrand needed to work together to form the cohesive, stylized look the school previously lacked.
The sub logo icon for OLLIS was created by pulling elements of the new crest with the goal that it would translate to very small spaces like embroidery on uniforms.
School spirit we can get behind.
In order to carry the OLLIS brand beyond the classroom and onto the sports fields we created an original illustration of the OLLIS tiger mascot. The mascot was designed to work on student athletic uniforms and spirit day attire alike.
Rebranding an established image
OLLIS needed a visual identity that could lead the way into the future while also providing consistent standards for an educational institution rich in Catholic tradition. Success was found in creating a unified brand of old and new elements.
